ABSTRACT
Infectious disease represents an important problem for health, and they are one of the main causes of increased death rate throughout the world. Due to their resistance to antibiotics and with the toxicity the medicinal plants are widely used by the traditional medical practioner.[1] They use medicinal plants in their day to day practice due to lesser side effects. Plants have been used as illustrative source of medicine since ancient times. During the past several years, there has been an increasing incidence of fungal infections due to a growth in immune compromised population such as organ transplant recipients, cancer and HIV/AIDS patients.[2] The allopathic antifungal agents are effective in the treatment of oral fungal infection, but their side effects cannot be overlooked.[3] This review summarizes the information and knowledge about the new profile of antifungal drugs obtaining from medicinal plants, because herbal plants being purely natural have no toxic effect if used for a long duration. This review also highlights the new advancements in topical formulations as compared to ancient times.
