ABSTRACT
Milagaranai Ver Chooranam(root of Toddalia asiatica)is one of the
Siddha herbal drug, which has been indicated for its analgesic and antiinflammatory
properties. The aim of this present study is to validate
Analgesic, acute and chronic anti-inflammatory activity of
Milagaranai Ver Chooranamat the doses of 100 mg/kg
and200 mg/kgbody weight in experimental animals. Analgesic activity
was evaluated by hot plate method in Swiss albino mice; acute and
chronic anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated by carrageenaninduced
paw oedema and cotton pellet granuloma in Wistar albino rats
respectively. Diclofenac sodium and Ibuprofen were employed as
reference drugs for analgesic and anti-inflammatory studies. The
animals were randomized into 4 groups (n=6). Control group received vehicle only. MVC
100 and MVC200 significantly inhibited pain, carrageenan induced paw oedema and reduced
the weight of cotton pellet granuloma. These effects are more significant at the dose of 200
mg compared to MVC 100mg dose level which showed the dose dependent activity of
MVC.Our results confirm the traditional use of Milagaranai Ver Chooranam as an analgesic
and anti-inflammatory.
