ETHNOMEDICINAL USES OF SELECTED PLANTS BY THE GOND TRIBAL GROUP OF AMLIPALI VILLAGE OF PADAMPUR NAC OF BARGARH DISTRICT IN WESTERN ODISHA, INDIA

ABSTRACT
Traditional medicinal plants play an important role in therapies of various human and livestock ailments in the Gond community. In this Amlipali Village, high array of long term skills and practices of traditional knowledge on use, preparation and use of medicinal plants is still maintained among the Gond community. In this study site around 26 family are permanent residence with more the 110 voters. A total of 20 species from 19 genera of plants belonging to 17 families were gathered from various habitats of the study areas and each was documented with regard to its local name, part used, collection, mode of administration and habitats of the species (Figure 1). Out of 20 plant species of the study site, 10 (53%) species of trees, 05 (26%) species of shrubs, 03 (16%) species of herbaceous plants and one (5%) species of climber are used in preparation of traditional medicines. Many of them till yet using young stem of different plants as tooth brush and tongue cleaner. These plants can be further studied for their pharmacological activity and active compound. Awareness regarding scientific and systematic collections of medicinal plants may be done by responsible authority for commercial purposes, which can be beneficial for the local inhabitants.
