COUVELAIRE UTERUS IN RETROPLACENTAL HEMATOMA, A CASE REPORT

ABSTRACT
The Couvelaire uterus or uteroplacental apoplexy is one of the complications of the placental abruption, its incidence is approximately 1%. The blood seeps into the uterine musculature and reaches under the serosa. The uterus shows signs of bruising, flaccidity, cannot contract, and results in atonic postpartum hemorrhage. As this, uterus is likely to bleed in the postoperative period, the treatment of choice is obstetric hysterectomy. In such cases, women lose their fertility function.
