ABSTRACT
The motive behind present work was to develop a microsponge based Novel dosage form for sustained delivery of Valsartan. Quasi-emulsion solvent diffusion method was implied using Eudragit RS 100 and Microsponges with varying drug-polymer ratios were prepared. Microsponges were characterized by FT-IR, production yield, percentage loading efficiency, morphology, particle size analysis and invitro drug release. There were no chemical interactions between drug and polymers used as revealed by compatibility studies outcome. The drug:polymer ratio reflected notable effect on drug content, encapsulation efficiency and particle size. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) results revealed spherical Microsponges with porous surface. The invitro dissolution studies of Microsponge formulation in capsule showed that drug release could be controlled by Eudragit RS 100.The kinetic analysis of valsartan Microsponges follows zero order and anomalous (Non-fickian) transport mechanism.
Keywords: Controlled release, Eudragit RS 100, Microsponges, valsartan, quasi emulsion solvent diffusion method.
