ABSTRACT
The present study was carried out to investigate the antiobesity effect
of leaves extract of Macrotyloma uniflorum Linn in rats . Obesity was
induced by administration of cholesterol for 40 days. The Macrotyloma
uniflorum laves extract (at the tested doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg)
exhibited a significant hypolipidemic effect and thus reduced the
obesity. The body weight and feed intake was reduced significantly.
Treatment of obese animals with the leaves extract of Macrotyloma
uniflorum exhibited an increased in high density lipoprotein with a
concomitant decrease in total cholesterol, triglycerides very low
density and low density lipo protein. Thus the study indicates that the
antiobesity activity of leaves extract of Macrotyloma uniflorum could be attributed to the
presence of phyotoconstituent in the leaves and the tendency of the extract to reduce lipid
profile .
