ABSTRACT
Introduction: Nasarsha is considered as mass in the nasal cavity
which is non-neoplastic. It causes nasal obstruction, sneezing and
headache. In ancient Ayurvedic classics one of the treatment
procedures is kshara karma. Materials & Methods: In the present
study, a 50 year old man complaining of nasal obstruction due to nasal
polyp was treated by application of Palasha kshara locally over the
polyp on alternate days for a period of 30 days. The result was assessed
based signs and symptoms and on pictures taken through rigid nasal
endoscopy. Result: There was significant reduction in size of polyp as
well as the signs and symptoms after the treatment. Discussion: the
alkaline properties of the kshara will help in reducing the size of the
nasarshas as well as the tissue will be burnt locally which will result in non-recurrence of the
disease. Conclusion: Pratisaraneeya kshara karma can be considered as a best alternative to
surgical procedure as it is a very convenient and cost effective procedure and also prevents
the recurrence of the disease.
