ABSTRACT
An accurate, precise, and simple RP-HPLC & Spectrophotometric method is proposed for the determination of theantithyroid drug carbimazole in bulk and formulation. The developed method was found to be specific, precise, accurate and reproducible. Separation was carried out by using Phenomenex, Kinetex XB-C18 (150 X 4.6 mm) 5μm column at 298 nm. Mobile phase comprising of 0.1% TFA water: acetonitrile (60:40 v/v) was used to achieve good resolution of the analyte peak. The detector linearity was established in concentrations ranging from 50-150 μg/mL with correlation coefficient of 1 for HPLC & concentrations ranging from 5-15 μg/mL with correlation coefficient of 0.999 for UV Spectrophotometry. The method was tested at different levels of specificity and accuracy as per ICH guidelines. The proposed methods could be adopted for routine analysis of carbimazole, due to its short analysis time, ease of method, affordability, and effectiveness.
