SIDDHA HERBO-MINERAL FORMULATION OF VAAYU MATHIRAI – A REVIEW

ABSTRACT

Siddha system is an ancient system of medicine that gives to physical, mental as well as the spiritual wellbeing of mankind. This system has been developed by Siddhars, ancient, Spiritual saints in the South India. This formulation medicine consists of substances from Herbal, Mineral / Metal and Animal origins which are processed pharmaceutically to have therapeutic effects. Vaayu Mathirai is one such Herbo Mineral formulation which consists of Pooram (Calomel), Nellikai Gandhagam (sulphur), Karisalanganni (Eclipta prostrata). Present review focuses on composition, traditional uses of the herbo-mineral formulations of siddha system of medicine in Vaayu mathirai along with the scientific analysis of its pharmacological actions of the ingredients of Vaayu Mathirai on Siddha mineral preparations thereby confirming the traditional claims of the medicinal value of Vaayu Mathirai.
