ABSTRACT
Nanocochleates is novel lipid based drug delivery system, used for microencapsulation and delivery of therapeutics by entrapping them in a supramolecular assembly composed of negatively charged phospholipids and a diluents cation. Nanococleate technology is applicable to macromolecules as well as small molecules that are hydrophobic, fullycharged, negatively charged and that posses poor oral bioavailabilty. The various preparations used for the preparation of nanocochleate include hydrogel method, trapping method, dialysis method, binary aqueos emulsion method. Nanocochleate formulation are widely suitable to a broad range of therapeutics application which include the oral delivery of amphotericin B, a potential antifungal
agent, orally and parentaerally having a good safety profile with reduced cost of treatment, large DNA constructs and plasmids, peptide formulations; anti inflammatory formulations, advantages of this system over other systems.
Keywords: Nanocochleate, Liposomes, Phospholipids.
