ABSTRACT
In the present study, a new series of 2-substituted benzimidazole schiff
bases and its azetidinone and thiazolidinone derivatives were
synthesized from O-phenylenediamine and P-amino benzoic acid. The
synthesized compounds were screened for antibacterial (Bacillus
subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Salmonella
typhi), antifungal (Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger), analgesic
activity by tail-flick method and anti-inflammatory activity by
carrageenan induced paw oedema method. The synthesized compounds
showed significant activity of antibacterial, antifungal, analgesic and
anti-inflammatory activity comparable to that of standard.
Keywords: Benzimidazole, Azetidinone, Thiazolidinone, Antibacterial, Antifungal, Analgesic, Anti-inflammatory.
