TRANSDERMAL DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM: AN OVERVIEW

ABSTRACT
A Transdermal Patch is a medicated adhesive pad that is placed on the upper skin to deliver a steady dose of medication through skin into the bloodstream. It delivers the drug by the diffusion process directly through the skin into the bloodstream, at a predetermined and controlled rate. Topical administration of therapeutic agent offers many advantages, such as it is non-invasive route of drug administration, avoid hepatic first pass metabolism, convenient, patient compliance, sustained therapeutic action but its prevalent use is restricted due to better impervious nature of skin. This review article includes the study of transdermal drug delivery system regarding its type, method of preparation, mechanism and component used for the
preparation of transdermal patches.
