ABSTRACT
Carbon dots are carbon nanoparticles, with an average diameter less than 10 nm. C-dots have attracted great attention due to the simplistic materials and simple methods of synthesis for the fabrication. In recent years researchers across the world paying great attention to carbon dots due to their properties such as small size, chemical stability, easy surface modification, excellent photoluminescence, water solubility, easy synthesis, and the possibility of functionalization. Due to these unique characteristics, Carbon dots have found wide applications in different scientific disciplines such as engineering, pharmaceutical and biomedical. In this review, we have discussed recent pharmaceutical and biomedical applications such as, in Bioimaging/Biosensing, drug delivery, cancer therapy, brain delivery, and gene delivery along with the challenges ahead.
