BASTI CHIKITSA & ITS RATIONALITY IN MUTRAROGA

ABSTRACT
According to Ayurvedic principle, the pioneer method of management for the correction of vitiated Doshas is Panchakarma. It has a unique concept to expel out the morbid Dosha by Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya and Raktamokshana from the body. Out of these five Shodhana Karmas, Basti is considered superior to all of the other measures owing to its multiple effects. The classical literature had innumerable significance to this therapy and points out a wide range of its applicability. Basti is a procedure in which medicated oil, decoctions, etc is introducing in to the „Pakwashaya‟ through the rectum by Basti Yantra. Depending on the drugs used for Basti, it has got both Shodhana and Shamana action. There is a definite role of Viguna Vata,
for the manifestation of the various pathologies, because this Vata is only the sole cause of various functions which take place in the body. When its normal biological rhythm is disturbed it results in disease process. Basti procedure is a way of treatment which brings about the Vata-anulomata, by which every illness can be controlled. So, in the view of above facts in this article an attempt is being made to discuss Basti Chikitsa in Mutrarogas.
