A PHARMACEUTICAL AND ANALYTICAL REVIEW OF ROUDRARASA

ABSTRACT

Introduction- Techniques used in Rasa Shastra like Shodhana, Marana, Bhavana acclimatize the toxic principles into effective remedies known as herbo mineral formulations (Rasaoushadhies) in Ayurveda. Roudrarasa is a herbo mineral formulation which has been indicated to treat Arbuda. Arbuda is the Sanskrit word used for Tumor. According to Sushruta the three doshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha) when aggravated, may develop a Tumor, especially aggravated Kapha and Vata Doshas. Materials and methods: The test drug Roudrarasa is prepared mentioned in Bhaishajya Ratnavali and also carried out Analytical test like Physico-chemical analysis, Instrumental analysis. Results: Roudrarasa is Black coloured powdered, Total Ash(on dry basis)-4.11, Acid insoluble ash(on dry basis)-1.07, Water soluble ash (on dry basis)-0.19,pH-8.69, Loss on ignition-0.21, Particle size-3.694.Conclusion: As the ingredients are easily available and the method of prepration is easier, Arbuda requires Tridoshara and Rasayana chikitsa. Thus Roudrarasa becomes the drug of choice in the treatment of cancer.
