NUTRACEUTICAL: A DRUG, DIETARY SUPPLEMENT, AND DISEASE

ABSTRACT
A nutraceutical is any food or food ingredient considered to provide medical or health benefits, including the prevention treatment of disease. Food-base (nutrition) substances that have pharmaceutical effects on human health. The food product used nutraceuticals can be categorized as dietary supplement (prebiotic, probiotic, antioxidant), functional food, medicinal food and farmaceutical. Nutraceutical are specially treated food rich in vitamin, mineral, protein etc. used for improving health. It is used for the prevention of the diseases. Some popular nutraceutical include in glucosamine, ginseng, omega-3 egg, calcium-enriched orange juice, green tea, folic acid etc. The nutraceutical used in various diseases such as obesity, osteoporosis,
cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, Alzheimer‟s diseases, vision improving agent, cancer. Now a day all people have preconception or prejudice about nutrition and health. India is a developing country. So many people of rural areas are suffering from non- communicable diseases and disorders due to lack of proper knowledge about nutrition, food and diet. In this review briefly discusses about the basic information about the nutraceutical with its use in various disease specific indication and its important.
