Syeda Arshia Begum* and Dr. Hemant D. Une

ABSTRACT

Alcoholic neuropathy is a disorder involving decreased nerve function due to the damage caused by habitual alcohol abuse. Herbal medicine are getting more interest because of their cost effective, eco-friendly attributes and proper reprieve from dieseasse condition. The present study was designed to study the Effect of Citrus sinensis, Linn. peel extract on Alcohol induced Neuropathy in rats. The powdered material of Citrus sinensis, Linn. peel was subjected to extraction with methanol using soxhlet extraction method. Alcoholic neuropathy was induced by administration of 35%v/v ethanol (10gm/kg, oral gavage) in double distilled water for 10 weeks. Rats were treated with the doses 100, 250, and 500mg/kg of Citrus sinensis, Linn. peel extract. The Citrus sinensis, Linn. peel extract has significantly increased the tail withdrawal latency as compared to ethanol control in Tail Flick Test, Tail Immersion Test and paw withdrawal latency in Hot Plate Test. Thus, Citrus sinensis, Linn. peel extract has been found to have protective action against alcohol indused neurapathy in Rats.
