NOVEL USE OF SUCROSE COCOATE AS SURFACTANT IN FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF HERBAL LIQUID SOAP

ABSTRACT
Various herbal liquid soaps were formulated with the use of synthetic surfactant like sodium lauryl sulphate. The aim of the present work was to formulate the herbal liquid soap or hand wash with the natural surfactant that is sucrose cocoate. The other natural ingredients used are Ferula foetida (antimicrobial activity), Myrrh (antibacterial and antifungal activity), eucalyptus oil (antibacterial activity), and Azadiracta indica (antimicrobial as well as a good preservative). Three formulations with different composition was prepared. Various evaluation test like organoleptic evaluation, washability, fragrance test, pH, Foam retention test, primary skin irritation test, stability, homogeneity and antimicrobial test. The antimicrobial activity of
prepared formulations of hand wash was checked against skin pathogens Bacilus subtilus, Staphylococcus aureus, Psuedomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli by agar diffusion method. The positive results encouraging for use of herbal hand wash on regular basis.
