Abstract

EFFICACY OF LODHRA (SYMPLOCOS RACEMOSA ROXB.) TWAK CHURNA LEPA IN VYANGA-A PILOT STUDY

ABSTRACT

Background: The first and foremost reflection of the person is face and any disfigurement or scars on the face has great impact on individual personality and society. In Ayurveda skin diseases are mentioned under Kushta and Kshudra roga. Vyanga is one among the Kshudra Roga characterized by presence of Niruja (Painless) and Shyavamandala (Bluish black patches) on face. In Modern Science it can be correlated to Facial melasma based on the clinical features. Drugs pleasing to Twak, Rakta and Manas are helpful in the management of Vyanga. Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of Lodhra twak (Symplocos racemosa Roxb.) churna lepa with navanita in vyanga. Materials and Methods: Total of 10 subjects fulfilling the diagnostic criteria of vyanga was randomly selected for clinical trial. The intervention includes topical application of Lodhra twak churna mixed with navanitha for 45 days. Improvement was assessed on the basis of clinical signs and symptoms as per pre-defined scores and scale. Result: The clinical study showed significant improvement in lightening hyperpigmentation. Conclusion: The Drug Lodhra found to be effective in the management of Vyanga due to its anti-oxidant activity and phyto-constituent present in it.
