Rasashastra is a pharmaco-therapeutical branch mainly deals with inorganic, herbo-mineral and metallic pharmaceutical preparations. Rasashastra deals with parada, which is considered to be the heart of Rasashastra. Various preparations like kupipakwa rasayana, pottali rasayana(consolidated forms of mercury compounds), parpati rasayana (thin flakes of mercuric sulphide) and kharaliya rasayana (prepared by grinding the ingredients in khalva yantra) are prepared from parada which have greater therapeutic efficiency, of which parpati kalpana is a well-known and successfully used preparation. The historical evidences of parpati kalpana ways back in the 11th century having references from Chakradatta written by Acharya Chakrapani. Parpati rasayana are highly potent, having high therapeutic value, less toxic and cost-effective medicines. In the process of preparation, Parada is heated along with Gandhaka in a controlled manner during which Gandhaka loses its toxic effect and also nullifies the toxic effects of parada and potentiates it; later it is compulsorily made cool immediately with artificial cooling arrangements to get a very intimate unique bonds in final forms, after which parada attains various therapeutical qualities. Parpati kalpana’s disinfects the elementary canal and thereby detoxifying one of the greatest sources of morbid process.
