ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the comparative antihyperlipidemic activity of Navaka guggulu and Trayushanadi guggulu in atherogenic diet induced albino rats. Method: Animals were divided into 5 groups, 6 in each group. First group was considered as vehicle control, second group was hyperlipidaemic control. Atherogenic diet was provided to groups , , IV, V to induce hyperlipidaemia. Simvastatin (10mg/kg bwpo) was given to group-V. Navakaguggulu (105mg/kg bw) and Trayushanadi guggulu (105mg/kg bw) was given to group- III & IV. Result: In trial group 1, there was significant decrease in Triglycerides, TC, VLDL and AI. In trial group 2, there was significant decrease in Triglycerides, TC, VLDL and AI whereas SOD showed mild decrease and LDL showed non-significant decrease at the end of the 34th day. There was a mild increase in HDL cholesterol compared to the disease control group. Conclusion: Both the drugs were effective in hyperlipidaemia whereas, trial group 1 showed significant results compared to trial group 2.

Keywords: Hyperlipidaemia, Navaka Guggulu, Trayushanadi Guggulu, lipoprotein, Simvastatin.
