ABSTRACT
In ayurveda and morden science Ashmari is not a new disease to the world. Scientist have found evidence of kidney stone in a 7000 years old Egyptain mummy. It affects children and adult. Among adult males are affected more than females especially in age group of 30 to 50 years. As a consequence of this stone varies types of complication occur in the affected kidney viz., obstruction, infection, parenchymal erosion, and even total kidney failure. Due to its effects opposite healthy kidney can go to compensatory hypertrophy and even calculus anuria might develop. In conventional systems of medicine some of the drugs are effective to prevent formation of stone but their various side effects do not advocate their regular use. More over the effectiveness of there medicines have been tested for small size of the stone only. Very less work has been done in respect to large size stones
(above6mm) which require surgical intervention (ESWL, PCNL etc.). Treatment of ashmari in Ayurveda various formulations have been advocated by ancient acharya.
