A CRITICAL REVIEW OF OJA

ABSTRACT

Ojas is the first body entity getting formed after Prakruta Vata Pitta and Kapha. As bee collects honey from flowers and fruits; this Ojas is formed by collecting excellence Of qualities or attributes from living beings. This unique Ojas does the functions such as strength to keep body, keeping sense organs and mind together in functional harmony, it guards the body against adverse conditions, which disturbs the homeostasis of living body. Ojas is considered as an essential factor for the survival of human. As long as Ojas is in its physiological status, human body remains in homeostatic condition. Any disturbance of any kind endangers life. Such status of Oja is called as Ojovikruti. A Physician has to deal with three problems related to Oja. Sushrutha Samhita explains it under three headings, a) Visramsa of Ojas, b) Vyapat of Ojas and c)Kshaya of Ojas, while Acharaya Charaka and Acharya Vagbhata explains it under Ojo Kshaya.
