ABSTRACT
Thiamine, known as vitamin B1 (water-soluble vitamin), is a natural nutrient present in many foods and is also added as an essential nutrient in food products. This vitamin has been used for the prevention and treatment of beriberi, neuralgia, and others. Several analytical methods have been used for testing thiamine and its salts in pharmaceutical preparations, food stuff, and biological fluids. In this review article, a study of the literature on vitamin analysis was conducted by using High-Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC), High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Spectrophotometry. The review article analysis showed that these three methods effectively analyzed vitamin B1; however, Uv-Vis Spectrophotometry is most widely used at present because it can determine vitamin B1 levels in small levels (sensitive).
Keywords: TLC, Spectrophotometry, High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Vitamin B1.
