MUTRAKRICHHRA WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS: AN OVERVIEW

ABSTRACT
Mutrakrichhra is a disease which comes under the ailments of Mutravaha srotas. It is mentioned in almost all Ayurvedic classical texts which show its prevalence in ancient time also. Apana vata vaigunya is considered to be the cause of Mutrakrcchra and dukhena mutrapravrutti, ie difficulty in urination is the salient feature. Mutrakrcchra is a broad term that confides the characteristics of UTI. Community survey suggests that the prevalence of UTI in women is about 3% at the age of 20, increasing by about1% in each subsequent decade. High recurrence rate and increasing anti microbial resistance among uropathogens increases the economic burden of these infections. The present paper attempts to evaluate the concept of
Mutrakrichhra and its different treatment protocol mentioned in different classical texts that can be adapted in present scenario effectively along with its modern perspective.
