Abstract

DEVELOPMENT AND EVALUATION OF FAST DISSOLVING TABLETS OF AZILSARTAN BY USING NATURAL SUPER DISINTEGRATING AGENTS

Avinash S. Gudigennavar* and Ismail M. Makanadar

ABSTRACT

The fast dissolving tablets of Azilsartan were prepared by direct compression method. The drug solubility was increased by solid dispersion using solvent evaporation. The prepared solid dispersions are characterized. Extraction of Dehydrated banana powder and plantago ovata mucilage, used as a natural disintegrating agents. The physicochemical parameters like pre-compression and post-compression evaluation were performed as per pharmacopoeia standards and compatibility study was done by FTIR method. The FTIR spectral analysis showed that there was no drug interaction with formulations additives of the tablet as there is no variation and shift in bands, it can be justified there is no interaction between drug and polymer. The Solid dispersion with 1:3 ratio shows better aqueous solubility which explains better dissolution rate of the drug. Various batches of FDTs were prepared using selected ratio of SD. Precompression parameters showed good flow properties. And Post compression parameters like thickness, hardness, weight-variation, friability, wetting-time, water absorption ratio, disintegration time, drug content, in-vitro drug release study shown good results. Formulation F8 showed good results throught the study. From the results, it was concluded that the FDTs of Azilsartan containing Plantago ovata mucilage (F8) and Dehydrated banana powder (F2) with the Solid dispersion of β-Cyclodextrin are showed less disintegration time and in-vitro drug release study is faster than the Solid dispersion of drug with the PVPK30.
