Usma Gangwar* and Anita Choubey
ABSTRACT
Strychnos potatorum. is an important medicinal plant, which is used for the treatment of several ailments, including microbial infections, diarrhoea and diabetes. It contains alkaloids mainly diaboline, and four triterpenes viz., isomotiol, sitosterol, stigmasterol and as important secondary metabolites. The aim of the study was to purify and characterized another secondary metabolites form ethanol extract of seeds. Several spectroscopy based analysis (UV, IR, NMR and Mass) were performed for isolation and characterization. The major
phytoconstituents were 5-chloro-2-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)-, acetate (SP-A) and 4,6-di-tert-butylbenzene-1,3-diol (SP-B). So it is prescribed as a plant of phytopharmaceutical significance. In any case, further investigations should be attempted to determine completely its bioactivity, danger profile, impact on the biological system and rural items.
