COST ANALYSIS STUDY OF CLASSICAL CHYAWANPRASH AVAILABLE IN INDIAN MARKET

ABSTRACT
Chyawanprash is an ancient Ayurvedic poly herbal formulation and recently has gained immense popularity worldwide because of its immunity boosting properties. In Indian market classical and proprietary chyawanprash is manufactured by many manufacturers with different pack size and cost. Cost of product, a decisive factor when different brands are available for same product. The objective of this study is to analyze the cost variation in different brands of classical chyawanprash in India. Method: The minimum and the maximum cost in Rupees (INR) of classical chyawanprash manufactured by various manufacturer with same authoritative text reference used for preparation in the same pack size were noted. The percentage cost variation in classical chyawanprash were calculated for same authoritative text reference and pack size. Results: The costs of total 17classical chyawanprash available in Indian market were analyzed and noticeable variation in cost was observed. Maximum cost variation 48.82% seen in 500gm. pack size of classical chyawanprash prepared as per Ayurvedic Formulary of India while minimum cost variation 01.66% is seen in classical chyawanprash prepared as per Rasa Tantra Sara Siddha Prayog Sangraha with 500gm pack size. Conclusions: The average percentage of price variation of different brands of the same drug manufactured in India is wide.Our study revealed that there is a substantial variation in the cost of classical chyawanprash. Looking to these price variation, cost of the ayurvedic drug is to be controlled in effective way.There is need to focus on develop drug price control policies for ayurvedic medicines which minimize the financial burden on an individual.
