Abstract

A SINGLE CASE STUDY OF MANAGEMENT OF JALODAR (ASCITES)

ABSTRACT

Ascites is the fluid collection in potential space of the peritoneal cavity. It is a symptom of numerous medical conditions and has a broad differential diagnosis. It can be considered in Ayurveda under the broad spectrum of Udararoga. Despite of countless facilities and highly developed technologies for the treatment of diseases in modern medical science, still, there is no sure treatment which cures a patient of ascites totally. In such cases, ayurvedic treatment gives relief. Diet restriction, medicinal treatment and surgical procedure are mentioned in Samhita. Diet restriction is an important and unique feature of the management of this condition. A 47-year-old male subject presented with history of bilateral pedal edema; abdominal distension associated with heaviness, breathlessness during walking etc. He was given Nitya Virechan with Trivrut Avaleha, Darvyadi kwatha, Aarogyavardhini vati along with Arkapatra pattabandhan and only Cow milk diet plan. Appreciable results were observed in the form of reduction in abdominal girth, decreased pedal edema, increased strength and remarkable changes in investigations. The positive report of this study motivates to further studies to establish treatment protocol of ascites.
