EFFECT OF TILA-KALKA LEPA IN DUSHTA-VRANA

ABSTRACT
Dushta-Vrana (Non healing ulcer) are often encountered problem faced in surgical practice. In present era, sometimes it is produced, as a complication of Saddhyo Vrana or pathological insult and it causes long term agony to the patient. Dushta-Vrana worsens the condition of the patient which may become fatal. Naturally Vrana will heal in a particular time period if no Doshic invasion or infection takes place. Dushta-Vrana takes long time in healing as compared in comparison to Shuddha Vrana. Hence, there is a need of appropriate Ayurvedic management to cure Dushta-Vrana. In the present research work, Tila-Kalka Lepa has been evaluated for Dushta-Vrana management. Total 15 patients were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria.
Local application of Tila-Kalka Lepa was done after Nirgundi Kwath prakshalana, followed by sterile bandaging once daily. Assessment was done according to subjective and objective parameters. The observations showed that 100% patients got cured, without any complications. Result was observed on the basis of subjective parameters (Pain, Itching) and Objective parameters (Tenderness, Discharge, Size, Floor/Granulation, and Smell) and analysed statistically. It was found that Tila-Kalka Lepa showed Highly significant result. Moreover, classical herbal formulations of Tila-Kalka Lepa was well accepted by all patients and did not produce any side effect during study period as well as follow up.
