ABSTRACT
Ayurveda is the only science which speaks about prevention, promotion and curation. Panchkarma is an integral part of Ayurvedic treatment. It is designed to eliminate the vitiated doshas through the nearest root and to maintain a state of its equilibrium. Virechana karma is one among the samshodhana chikitsa where Doshas are expelled through Adhomarga .Though Virechana is agrya shodhana for vitiated pitta dosha, we find references that it also eliminates pitta associated with kapha and pittastanagata kapha. The incidence and prevalence rate of diabetes itself suggests that it is a burning issue alarming the
world. India has already become the capital of the world in case of diabetes. Prameha can be considered as pre diabetic stage based on its classical signs and symptoms. Vitiated kapha and pitta obstructs the path of vata, causing provocation of prameha, in which Virechana helps to maintain the proper metabolism and also helps in maintaining weight and lipid values. As Diabetes is one of the incurable disease ending with multiple organ damage, preventive measure plays an important role to be free from Diabetes.
