ABSTRACT
Shodhana is the procedure by which dushita doshas are expelled out from the body. Panchakarma is not merely a Shodhana therapy, but also has wider range of therapeutics. Panchakarma should be done in the presence of Upasthita dosha which is achieved by proper Poorva karma like Deepana Pachana Rukshana Snehana Swedana. After Pradhana karma one should undergo proper Samsarjana krama. Just like the little fire is ignited gradually by grasses, cow dung etc., Agni of Shodhitha Purusha is increased in the same way by Peyadi Samsarjana karma. In a nut shell, without performing Poorva karma and Paschat karma, shodhana cannot be achieved successfully.
