QUERCETIN: A NATURAL FLAVONOID USED IN COSMETICS PRODUCTS

ABSTRACT
Quercetin is a versatile flavonoid that is commonly found in the plant kingdom. It has been observed that quercetin performs a defensive mechanism against UV light. It occurs naturally in fruits and vegetables and excessively in onion, teas, apple, berries, and red wine. Its stability, solubility, and penetration have been enhanced by various methods such as drug delivery systems. Due to its versatile properties, it has been commonly used in various cosmetics as well as cosmeceutical products. Quercetin is known to have anti-melanogenesis effect, it reduces hyperpigmentation, acts as a scavenger for free oxygen radicals and provides protection, gains lipid peroxidation, etc. This review summarizes the information on various
activities of quercetin and uses of quercetin as niosomal drug delivery system.
