DIABETES MELLITUS AND ASSOCIATED COLORECTAL CANCER - AN UPDATE

ABSTRACT
Association between diabetes mellitus and colorectal cancer is difficult to unravel. Type 2 diabetes mellitus and colorectal cancer share risk factors in common for occurrence. The driving forces behind the development of colorectal cancer in diabetic individuals are hyperinsulinaemia and hyperglycaemia. Incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus and colorectal cancer could be reduced by certain approaches that modify the risk factors. This article will provide an insight into various factors and mechanisms underlying the process of colorectal tumourigenesis in diabetic patients. Information on the causal relationship between diabetes mellitus and colorectal cancer were collected from the published articles using Boolean search operators in
the scientific search engines and databases.
