ABSTRACT
The present investigation an attempt have been made to increase
therapeutic efficacy, reduce frequency of administration and improve
patient compliance, by developing sustained release matrix tablets of
Ritonavir. Sustained release matrix tablets of ritonavir were developed
by using different polymer like hydroxyl propyl methyl
cellulose(K100M) , Eudragit RS 100, chitosan, in different ratio
formulations were compressed by wet granulation method.
Compressed tablets were evaluated for uniformity of weight, content of
active ingredient, friability, hardness, thickness, invitro dissolution.
The in vitro drug release characteristics were studied in both simulated
gastric and intestinal fluids for a period of 12 hr using USP Type 2
dissolution apparatus. drug in combination with chitosan were found to be effective in
retarding the release of Ritonavir.
Keywords: Sustained release, Ritonavir, HPMC K100M, Chitosan, Eudragit RS100.
