ROLE OF VIRECHANA IN HEPATOBILLIARY DISORDERS: A REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Liver is the most important and the largest internal organ of our body, essential for our survival. It performs more than 500 functions combined with other organs. Liver diseases are a considerable burden on the society. Hepatobiliary diseases include a heterogeneous group of diseases of the liver and biliary system affecting more than 50% population ranging from Non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases, hepatitis, gall stones etc. It is essential to understand Ayurvedic approach to the diagnosis and treatment of liver diseases. Since yakruth is the pittasthana and the treatment of choice is virechana, an attempt is made to explain the role of virechana in relation to hepatobiliary disorders.
