A DETAILED LITERARY REVIEW ON AGNIMANTH WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO AYURVEDA SAMHITAS

ABSTRACT
Agni means fire. Mantha means to shake. Its wood pieces are rubbed with each other to generate fire in ancient times. In Kaiyadev Nighantu, Agnimantha mentioned in Aushadhi varga and explained two varieties, Agnimantha and Tarkari with 14 common synonyms of both. In Raj nighantu, ―Agnimanthadwaya‖ word mentioned in prabhadradi varga and explain two varieties Agnimantha and kshudra agnimantha with13 and 7 synonyms respectively. Guna karma of both varieties is same. Drug pieces 7-15 cm long, 0.2 -3.0 cm thick, occasionally branched, cylindrical, tough, yellowish- brown externally,
bark thin, occasionally easily peeled, outer surface rough due to exfoliation, wood light yellow, fracture hard, taste-slightly astringent.
