APPROPRIATE PRESCRIBING IN ELDERLY PATIENTS: HOW CAN IT BE ACHIEVED?

ABSTRACT
Appropriate prescribing is a general phrase encompassing a range of values and behaviors to express in a simple term the quality of prescribing. It is a challenge to be achieved in elderly. Many considerations must be taken into account to achieve appropriate prescribing. This study will define appropriate prescribing. It will also display the factors that make appropriate prescribing a challenge in elderly. In addition, it will highlight some considerations that must be taken into account to achieve appropriate prescribing in elderly patients. Finally, the study will review some important examples of drug interactions and their possible outcome in elderly, and some important examples of adverse drug reactions associated with some drugs.
