Hema Goswami* and Ajay Kumar Gupta

ABSTRACT

A healthy life has been the cherished wish of human beings. Diseases have been associated with human since their existence. Almost every source of life surrounding human beings has been used to treat many diseases based on clinical experiences. Shashthi Upakramas are miraculous procedures advocated in Vrana management by Acharya Sushruta; Karavira Avachoornana is one of them. The results of Karavira Avachoornana depicted a significantly positive outcome. In modern surgery, so many forms of treatment for Dushta-Vrana (chronic wounds or Non-specific ulcer) show its limitations and complications. In modern science, researchers are still searching for new modalities to manage chronic wounds and non-specific ulcers. It is cost effective treatment without complications and good results. It is also certainly simple and safe for Dushta-Vrana management. Hence, there is a need of appropriate Ayurvedic management to cure Dushta-Vrana. In the present research, Karavira Avachoornana has been evaluated which is free from any drawbacks. Total 15 patients were taken based on Inclusion and Exclusion criteria. Local application of selected drugs was done after Nirgundi Kwath prakshalana, followed by sterile bandaging once daily. Assessment was done according to subjective and objective parameters. The observations showed 86.67% were cured and 13.33% were markedly improved, without any complications. Result was observed on the basis of subjective parameters (Pain, Itching) and Objective parameters (Tenderness, Discharge, Size, Floor/Granulation, and Smell) and analysed statistically. Karavira Avachoornana was well accepted by all patients and did not produce any side effect during study period as well as follow up.
