ABSTRACT
Introduction: Ayurveda, the art of ancient medicine has quoted the importance of bheshaja to maintain healthy life of mankind. This is the essential component among chikitsa chatushpada- the four pillars for the treatment, which need to be authenticated in various ways through research methods of present era. Hence Taaramandoora guda is selected to test for its protective action on colon mucosa through experimental study. Methodology: The test drug was evaluated for protective action on Ulcerative Colitis induced by intra rectal administration of acetic acid in wistar albino rats. The results were analyzed by the application of suitable statistical methods. Result: The test drug Taaramandoora guda showed statistically significant reduction in ulcer index, significant increase in weight and non
significant reduction in serum C-Reactive protein level. Histopathology confirms lesser damage to colon of rats in the test group. Conclusion: With the results obtained by animal experimentation, it can be concluded that Taaramandoora Guda shows protective action on Ulcerative Colitis induced by acetic acid in wistar albino rats.
