AGERATUM CONYZOIDES LINN. – FROM TRADITIONAL USE TO MODERN RESEARCH

ABSTRACT
Ageratum conyzoides L. (Family, Asteraceae) is a medicinal plant. The plant is used in traditional and folk medicines for treatment of gynecological diseases, sleeping sickness, skin diseases, eye diseases, colic, ulcers, diarrhoea, dysentery, fever etc. The plant is also used as antidote to snake poison and tetanus, in stomach ailments such as diarrhea and dysentery. In modern research the plant has been extensively studied when different parts of the plant have shown presence of numerous bioactive compounds. The plant has also exhibited many pharmacological activities like anti oxidant, anti cancer, anti malarial, anti microbial, anti inflammatory, analgesic etc. Further, the plant has shown spasmolytic effects and gamma radiation effects. In the present article attempts have been made to explore literature review of this medicinal plant from traditional use to modern research.
