Abstract

MANAGEMENT OF AVABAHUKA THROUGH AYURVEDIC PRINCIPLE – A CASE REPORT

ABSTRACT

Avabahuka (Frozen shoulder) is one among the Vatavyadhi which affects normal functioning of shoulder joint and also affect normal routine activities of person get hampered. The only classical symptom explained regarding Avabahuka is Bahu Praspanditahara (Restricted movement of affected shoulder). Whereas, some of the other symptoms clinically observed are pain in the affected shoulder, stiffness, muscle wasting etc. Avabahuka manifests due to both Dhatu Kṣhaya(Depletion of body tissue) as well as Marga-Avaraṇa (obstruction in channels). A 60 year male patient come to MGACH & RC for the complaining of pain in shoulder region, restricted movement and unable to lift hand since 1 month. Patient was treated as per the line of treatment of Vatavyadhi by Sthanik Abhyanga(Local massage), Patrapinda Sweda(fomentation), Nasya Karma (Errhines) and Shaman Chikitsa(Palitative treatment). The effect of Ayurvedic treatment was assessed in relation to improvement in overall clinical sign and symptoms.
