ABSTRACT
Albumin microspheres loaded with zileuton have been selected as a basis of the research work because major plasma protein constituent accounting for 35.5% of the total protein in human plasma is albumin. Albumin microspheres are investigated in control release system as vehicles for the delivery of therapeutic agent to local sites. As it is a natural polymer which is biodegradable, lacks toxicity and non-antigenic in nature.. Therefore, the use of this carrier system is the targeting of anti-asthmatic drugs in the treatment of, asthma. In this study, microspheres of an anti-asthma drug will be developed using egg albumin. Zileuton is an anti asthma drug that differs chemically and pharmacologically from other anti-asthmatic agents. It blocks leukotriene synthesis by inhibiting 5-lipoxygenase, an enzyme of the
eicosanoid synthesis pathway. To develop albumin microspheres, certain preparation methods like chemical cross-linking method, single emulsion polymerization method, emulsification-heat stabilization methods will be adopted. The selection of best formulation will be based on the results demonstrating the particle size, surface morphology, loading efficiency, % yield value, thermal behavior, physical characteristics, swelling properties, and the invitro release profile.
