ECONOMICAL AND SOCIAL IMPACT OF COVID-19 IN THE ASIA-PACIFIC REGION

ABSTRACT
The COVID 19 pandemic has resulted in over 4.3million confirmed cases and over 290000 deaths globally. The spread of the virus encouraged social distancing which led to the shutdown of financial markets, agriculture, textile, automotive, chemicals, poultry, hotels, restaurants, entertainment, sports e-commerce and pharmaceuticals we focus on the period from the start of 2020 through March when the corona virus began spreading into other contrary and markets we empirically examine the impact of social distancing polices on economic activities and stock market indices. The finding reveal that the increasing number of lockdown days, international travel restrictions severely affected the level of economic activities and the closing, opening, lowest, and heights stock prices of major stock
market indices. The food sector is also facing increased demand due to panic buying and stockpiling of food products. In reposed to this global outbreak, we summaries the social-economic effects of COVID -19 on individual aspects of the world economic.
