REVIEW ARTICLE ON GASTRO RETENTIVE DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEMS

ABSTRACT

Gastro retentive drug delivery system is one of the novel approach. These drug delivery systems acts as oral controlled release and act as site specific systems. Gastro retentive drug delivery systems help in releasing the drug in the controlled manner as well as they prolong the gastric residence time, there by targeting site specific drug release in the stomach for local or systemic effects . The purpose of writing the review on this gastro retentive drug delivery system was to compile the recent literature with special focus on various gastro retentive approaches that have recently become leading methodologies in the field of site specific orally administered controlled release drug delivery systems.
