Abstract

STUDY ON ADEQUACY OF CALCIUM INTAKE AMONG PREGNANT WOMEN OF URBAN AREA OF KANPUR CITY

ABSTRACT

The present study entitled ―Adequacy of Calcium Intake among Pregnant Women of Urban Area of Kanpur City‖ were selected through the random sampling method from Kanpur city. Dietary pattern was assessed by gathering information on the dietary intake by the 24 hours dietary recall, food frequency, and RDA by the ICMR was used in order to collect data from the selected respondents. 40 per cent respondent has Overweight. 60 per cent respondents were vegetarian, 16.66 per cent were non vegetarian and 23.33 per cent were eggitarian. In a dietary pattern 40 per cent respondent adopted five meal patterns. In food frequency Cereals, it was found that all respondents consumed cereals daily. The pulses were consumed daily by 80 per cent respondents. Green leafy vegetables they consumed daily by 73.33 per cent, fruits were consumed by 60 per cent respondent daily and 40 per cent were consumed monthly. The mean daily dietary intake of energy was 2472 Kcal and the energy from carbohydrate, protein and fat. Dietary intake of protein 59 g of RDA but its take high amount (74.19 g). Although mothers consume an adequate amount of protein, their iron intake was below (16.53 mg) the RDA of 33 mg, and folic acid and calcium also intake below (420.90 mg and 16.52 mg respectively) of the RDA 600 mg and 1200 mg respectively.
