COMPASSION FATIGUE AS A PREDICTOR OF MARITAL SATISFACTION AND LIFE SATISFACTION AMONG SPOUSES OF PATIENTS WITH DIABETES TYPE 2

ABSTRACT
Background: Diabetes mellitus is an increasingly serious problem in today’s sedentary lifestyle. It requires a strict routine which affects the daily lifestyle of the patient. This might cause changes in marital and life satisfaction. So, investigating it along with compassion fatigue adds a new dimension in the existing literature. Objective: The aim of the present study is to investigate compassion fatigue as a predictor of marital satisfaction and life satisfaction among spouses of patients with diabetes type 2. Method: The sample for the current study consisted of 150 married adults (75 males and 75 females) in the age group of 35
-55 years residing in the tricity for at least three years. The sample was administered a questionnaire of Compassion Fatigue along with ENRICH Marital Satisfaction Scale and Satisfaction with Life Scale. Inter-correlation analysis, t-test and multiple linear regression analysis were applied. Results: They revealed that compassion fatigue and burnout were negatively related with both marital satisfaction and life satisfaction. It was found that compassion satisfaction is positively related to marital and life satisfaction and also compassion fatigue, burnout and compassion satisfaction predicted marital satisfaction and life satisfaction in both males and females. Conclusion: compassion fatigue, burnout and compassion satisfaction play an important in prediction of marital and life satisfaction.
