ABSTRACT

Intra Nasal drug delivery which has been practiced for thousands of years. It is useful delivery methods for drugs that are active in a low dose and show no in a minimal oral bioavailability such as protein and peptide, through a nasal route for systematic use, utilizing the principles and concepts of rate controlled drug delivery and various polymers and absorption promoters. The propelled intranasal dosage form is deposited within the olfactory region of the nasal cavity the drug deposited within the olfactory region is delivered to the brain avoiding blood-brain-barrier. The large surface area of nasal mucosa affords a rapid onset of a therapeutic effect. Potential for a direct-to-central nervous system delivery intranasal therapy has been accepted from of treatment in the ayurvedic system of medicines. The nasal route circumvents hepatic first pass elimination associated with the oral delivery, The drugs are insufflated through the nose for either local systemic effect, it is easily accessible and suitable for a self-medication the large surface area of nasal mucosa affords a rapid onset of therapeutic effect potential for a direct-to-central nervous system delivery. Nasal route is beneficial for the drug ,which are unstable on oral administration because they are significantly degraded in GIT or metabolized by first pass effect in liver. Nasal route is an alternative to parenteral therapy and also useful for long term therapy, nasal mucosa is highly vascularized and most permeable also be used for systemic therapy , drug directly goes in systematic circulation. All of which maximum patient convenience, comfort, and compliance.
