IMMUNE RESPONSE IN THE WAKE OF COVID-19 INFECTION-A TWO-EDGED SWORD

ABSTRACT
The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 has taken the world hostage and led to a Pandemic affecting 210 countries, and infecting more than 7.27 million individuals worldwide and killing over 4,13,372. Respiratory aerosol mediated human to human transmission, along with the unavailability of treatment options for this novel RNA virus has created havoc and widespread panic in both developed and developing nations of the world. Nationwide lockdown in order to implement social distancing to break the chain of virus spread has caused great social and economic disruptions across the globe. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to understand the viral pathogenicity to discover a treatment strategy for the effective
management of the pandemic. Here we review our current knowledge of underlying immunological factors that influence the wide-range of disease severity among COVID-19 infection.
