ROLE OF PRATISARANEEYA KSHARA AFTER EXCISION IN DIFFERENT SURGICAL DISEASES – A REVIEW ARTICLE

ABSTRACT
Kshara is an alkaline substance which is obtained by methodological processing of herbal ashes. Kshara is said to be superior among all Shastra and Anushastras because of its properties like Chedana, Bhedana, Lekhana and Tridoshaghna. Diseases which are krichra (difficult to treat) can be cured by Kshara karma. Pratisaraneeya kshara is a type of kshara, which is widely practiced as Pradhana (operative) and Paschat (post-operative) karma in different surgical diseases. Because of its Ushna, Teekshna property it does Dahana, Pachana, Darana, Vilayana of Dushtadoshas. In diseases like Fistula-in-ano, Pilonidal sinus, papilloma, viral warts excision is the first line of treatment. High chances of wound infection are associated with early wound closure.When kshara karma is performed after excision it arrests the bleeding, encounters the infection, penetrates deeper tissues and removes the debris, purifies the wound and promotes wound healing from its base. Kshara reduces the chances of recurrence by destroying any residual unhealthy granulation tissue which merely left after excision. Hence here is an effort made to understand the effect pratisaraneeya Kshara after excision in different surgical diseases.
